Additional information about the Sebeiba Festival :

The Sebeiba Festival lasts for ten days and coincides with the Achoura celebrations in the Muslim calendar. During this period, the city of Djanet and its 14,000 inhabitants are bustling, with preparations underway for a week beforehand.

The celebration, inscribed on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list since 2014 and whose date is determined by the elders of the Djanet oasis, includes rehearsals where participants, young and old, learn traditional dances and songs.

The festival simulates a battle between two Tuareg tribes, El Mihane and Zelouaz, and its origin is lost in the mists of time. According to tradition, a fratricidal war once opposed these two tribes from the Tassili N'Ajjer desert, but upon learning of Moses' victory over the armies of the Pharaoh, they sealed a peace pact.

The festival also attracts foreign tourists, who came in large numbers this year to discover the Algerian Sahara and witness this unique celebration.
